What is a gillie?

gil·lie
Variant(s): or ghil·lie \ˈgi-lē\
Function: noun
Etymology: Scottish Gaelic gille & Irish giolla youth, gillie
Date: 1705

1 : a male attendant on a Scottish Highland chief; broadly : attendant
2 : chiefly Scottish & Irish : a fishing and hunting guide
3 : a shoe with a low top and decorative lacing
{ from Merriam-Webster )

Shoes cannot type, neither boy nor man; ancestry still debating.

However, since our family name on the GB side of things indicates some branch served as vassals of Clan Robertson, fish~gillie seemed appropriate, to me anyway.

This is the “informational” post.  In addition to fish keeping/aqua plant husbandry, I am an anthropology student and proud parent.
